Bond fans who were looking forward to taking 007 on the go with Nintendo’s next-gen hardware will need to keep their gadgets in the briefcase for just a little while longer. IO Interactive, the studio famously known for the Hitman series, has announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light has been delayed until later this summer. While other platforms are still on track for a late May release, it seems the transition to Nintendo’s upcoming handheld is proving to be a bit more complex than initially anticipated.

The game is currently scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on May 27. Interestingly, this date itself was a delay from an original March window. In a post on X, IO Interactive expressed excitement about players discovering their reimagined origin story for James Bond, stating that they are focused on bringing the best possible experience across all platforms. It looks like the team wants to ensure that the Switch 2 version doesn't suffer from the performance hiccups that have plagued other high-profile ports recently.

This isn't the first time 007 First Light has made headlines for technical reasons. Earlier this year, there was some confusion regarding the PC system requirements, which initially suggested players would need an incredibly high-end rig. IOI later corrected this, apologizing for the "internal miscommunication." Meanwhile, Sony is keeping the hype alive for its users by announcing a limited-edition 007 First Light DualSense controller, which is sure to be a collector's item for 007 enthusiasts.

Porting ambitious titles to the Switch 2 seems to be a recurring challenge for developers. We’ve already seen Gearbox shelve the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4, and the highly anticipated port of Elden Ring was pushed back to 2026 following performance issues at Gamescom. For now, Switch 2 owners will have to be patient, but if the extra time leads to a polished, 60fps Bond experience, the wait will likely be worth it for all you aspiring secret agents out there.
