Despite public concerns and resistance to AI data centers, the technology is not a major focus for most US midterm election campaigns. Experts suggest a disconnect between public sentiment and political priorities.

While a significant portion of Americans express concerns about Artificial Intelligence and advocate for slower development and regulation, AI is notably absent from the primary talking points of most midterm election campaigns. Recent polls indicate that over 60 percent of both Republicans and Democrats believe the government should regulate AI for economic stability and public safety. However, this widespread public apprehension doesn't seem to be translating into campaign strategies.

Communities across the US have actively resisted data center projects, leading to significant delays. Social media platforms often reflect intense anger towards AI companies and their executives, sometimes escalating to extreme sentiments. Despite these public sentiments, political campaigns appear to be prioritizing other issues, leaving AI in the background. This disconnect raises questions about how public concerns are being addressed or ignored in the political discourse leading up to the elections.

Experts suggest that while AI is rapidly evolving and impacting various sectors, its direct discussion in political campaigns might be seen as too complex or perhaps not yet a pressing enough issue for voters compared to more immediate economic and social concerns. The focus remains on more traditional campaign themes, leaving the AI debate largely outside the mainstream political arena for now. It will be interesting to see if this trend continues or if AI's influence on jobs and the economy will eventually force its way into more prominent campaign discussions.
