AMD's latest financial report reveals a dramatic increase in its data center revenue, which soared by 107 percent year-over-year to reach a record $6.7 billion in the second quarter of 2026. This impressive growth is primarily attributed to the insatiable demand for AI processing power. This figure significantly surpasses the $5.8 billion reported in the previous quarter and the $3.2 billion from the same period last year.

In contrast, AMD's gaming revenue saw a substantial drop of 31 percent compared to the previous year, settling at $779 million. This downturn is linked to factors such as price increases and component shortages that have impacted sales of popular gaming consoles like the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, as well as handheld devices like Valve's Steam Deck.

The company's overall revenue climbed by 50 percent year-over-year, hitting a record $11.5 billion. The data center business now accounts for a significant 58% of the company's total revenue, underscoring the strategic importance of AI hardware in AMD's current business model. While the gaming sector faces headwinds, the robust performance in data centers signals a strong pivot towards AI-driven markets for AMD.
