Anthropic’s Claude Code Adds More Autonomous Auto Mode

Anthropic has rolled out an upgraded auto mode for Claude Code that reduces the number of approvals needed for the model to act. The change signals a broader industry trend toward granting models more operational autonomy — carefully balanced with safety controls so they don’t run unchecked.

In practice, the new auto mode allows Claude Code to perform multi-step operations with fewer confirmation prompts. That can shorten turnaround times for developer workflows, automated scripting and integration tasks where repeated human sign-offs previously slowed progress.

Anthropic frames the update as a middle path: speeding routine decisions while keeping a leash on risky actions. The company says built-in safeguards monitor behavior and limit the scope of what the model can do without explicit approval. Those safeguards include constrained action sets, rollback hooks and additional logging to make it easier for teams to audit what the model attempted.
