Great news for anyone who’s ever found themselves frustrated by the less-than-ideal messaging experience between iPhones and Android devices. Apple has just rolled out iOS 26.5 in beta, and it’s bringing a significant upgrade: end-to-end encrypted RCS (Rich Communication Services) conversations with Android users, directly within the Messages app.

This means that when you’re chatting with an Android user and your carrier supports the feature, you’ll notice a lock icon and an “Encrypted” message at the top of your chat. Apple states that this encryption will be on by default and will gradually roll out to both new and existing RCS conversations. Essentially, your messages will be unreadable to Apple and Google themselves while in transit, offering a much-needed boost in privacy for cross-platform communication.

For a while now, the tech world has been pushing for better interoperability between Apple's iMessage and Google's RCS. This move by Apple, even in beta, is a huge step towards a more secure and unified messaging future for everyone, regardless of their device.

So, if you’re on iOS 26.5 beta and have an Android friend, you might want to give it a try. It’s exciting to see these two giants finally working towards a more private messaging experience for all their users. Let's hope this beta feature makes its way to a stable release soon!
