Apple Introduces 'Made for iPhone Duo' Badge for Foldable Apps

Apple is making it easier for users to discover apps that are specifically designed for its new foldable device, the iPhone Duo. The company is introducing a new 'Made for iPhone Duo' badge that will appear in the App Store, signaling that an app has been optimized to take advantage of the device's dual-screen real estate.

While Apple hasn't yet revealed what the badge will look like, the intention is clear: to help users easily identify and download applications that offer enhanced experiences on the iPhone Duo. Developers whose apps successfully utilize both the inner and outer displays of the foldable will be eligible for this new designation.

Examples of how apps are expected to leverage the Duo's screens are already emerging. Netflix, for instance, plans to utilize the full inner display for its main content, while simultaneously offering a feed of short-form clips on the outer screen. Similarly, Amazon's Prime Video is anticipated to allow users to watch shows and movies while the Duo is partially folded, suggesting a more flexible viewing experience.

This new badge is a significant step for Apple as it enters the foldable market. It not only provides a clear indicator for consumers but also encourages developers to invest in creating tailored experiences for the iPhone Duo. As foldable technology continues to mature, such initiatives will be crucial in driving adoption and ensuring a seamless user experience across different form factors.

The 'Made for iPhone Duo' badge is set to roll out across the App Store, ensuring that users can readily find the best apps for their new device as soon as it becomes available. This move signals Apple's commitment to supporting its hardware ecosystem with dedicated software optimizations.
