Apple Music Icon Gets a Monochrome Makeover in iOS Beta

Hey tech enthusiasts! It looks like Apple might be tweaking the visual identity of one of its most recognizable apps. The iconic red Apple Music icon, a staple for many of us, has reportedly been spotted in a starkly different black and white iteration within the latest iOS 27.2 beta. This subtle yet significant change was brought to light by 9to5Mac, and it’s got us wondering what’s next.

The change isn't just a simple color swap. Reports suggest that the eighth note symbol on the icon also sports a slightly sharper angle compared to the original. This detail hints at a more deliberate design evolution. Interestingly, this isn't the first time we've seen a potential logo refresh. A new Apple Music logo was also observed recently on the Apple Music Hall website, fueling speculation that this beta icon change could be part of a larger, coordinated rebranding effort to align the app’s look with other Apple Music branding elements.

According to the reports, the new icon presents a black music note against a white background in light mode, and conversely, a white note on a black background in dark mode. But the monochrome shift might extend beyond just the app icon. 9to5Mac also notes that Apple Music widgets are now featuring black backgrounds, suggesting a more comprehensive aesthetic update is underway within the app itself. While these changes are currently confined to a beta version, they often provide a glimpse into the direction Apple is heading with its software design. We'll be keeping a close eye on this to see if this new look makes its way to the final public release!
