Apple isn't just looking to take on Meta in the burgeoning smart glasses market; it appears the tech giant has its sights set on upending the entire eyewear industry as we know it. According to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple's strategy with its upcoming smart glasses extends far beyond competing with existing tech players.

When the Apple Watch first launched, it wasn't solely aimed at other smartwatches from Pebble and Motorola. Apple also strategically positioned the Watch against established watchmakers like Swatch, Fossil, and Seiko. This suggests a similar, multi-pronged approach is anticipated for their smart glasses.

The company's smart glasses are expected to be positioned not just against tech competitors like Meta and Samsung, but also against prominent traditional eyewear brands such as Oakley, Ray-Ban, and Warby Parker. This broad competitive landscape, with devices potentially falling in the $200-$500 price range, indicates Apple's ambition to capture a significant share of the wider eyewear market.

While the Apple Watch currently generates an estimated $17 billion annually, the eyewear market represents a potentially even larger opportunity. With the global watch market estimated at $132 billion, the broader eyewear sector is poised for disruption, and Apple seems determined to lead that charge with its innovative approach to smart glasses.
