The Crkd Nitro Deck 2 promises improved controls for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, featuring better analog sticks than Nintendo's own Joy-Cons. However, a significant design flaw in the button placement may hinder the user experience.

For those who experienced the original Nintendo Switch's notorious stick drift, the Crkd Nitro Deck was a welcome solution. This $59.99 accessory offered Hall effect sticks, saving users from intricate Joy-Con repairs. Now, Crkd is back with the Nitro Deck 2, designed for both the original Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. It continues the trend of providing superior analog sticks compared to Nintendo's offerings, although these new sticks aren't Hall effect or TMR. While it aims to enhance the gaming experience, the Nitro Deck 2 seems to have missed the mark in one crucial area.

The primary issue lies with the placement of the ABXY face buttons. According to early hands-on impressions, the right analog stick is positioned so close to these buttons that it becomes difficult to use them comfortably without the stick getting in the way. This design choice could be a significant drawback for players who rely on quick and precise button inputs, potentially detracting from the overall appeal of an accessory that otherwise aims to improve the Switch's control scheme.

While the improved sticks are a definite plus, this usability issue raises questions about the Nitro Deck 2's overall value proposition. It’s a shame because the original Nitro Deck was a lifesaver for many. We'll have to see if this design oversight is something users can adapt to, or if it ultimately limits the appeal of the Nitro Deck 2 for a wider audience seeking a seamless gaming experience.
