DoorDash and Wing Expand Drone Delivery to Atlanta

DoorDash and Alphabet's Wing are bringing 20-minute drone food delivery to the metro Atlanta area.
The future of food delivery is literally taking flight in the Peach State! DoorDash and Wing, Alphabet’s drone delivery subsidiary, have officially announced the expansion of their partnership to the metro Atlanta area. If you live in the right spot, your next burrito might just descend from the clouds instead of arriving in a sedan.
Specifically, eligible customers near Tanger Outlets in Locust Grove can now opt for drone delivery. According to DoorDash, these airborne couriers can get your food to your doorstep in as little as 20 minutes. It seems the days of watching a car icon get stuck in Atlanta traffic might be numbered for some lucky residents. Currently, the service is limited to a few local favorites like Molinos Mexican Grill, Koji Japanese Steakhouse, and Sabrosos Mexican Restaurant.
However, don't expect a whole catering order to fly in just yet. There are still some common-sense limits regarding the size and weight of the order. Wing’s latest drone design, introduced earlier in 2024, can carry up to 5 lbs, which is plenty for a family dinner but maybe not for a massive grocery haul. You can check your eligibility on Wing’s website, and if you're out of range, you can sign up for notifications as the "flight path" expands.
This isn't DoorDash’s first rodeo with automation. We’ve seen them testing their own "Dot" robots and partnering with Coco Robotics in cities like Miami and LA. But the partnership with Wing is particularly interesting because Wing is also scaling up with giants like Walmart. It looks like the race for the skies is heating up, and for us consumers, it means faster snacks and fewer delivery drivers looking for parking. What do you think, Mobikolik readers? Would you trust a drone with your spicy tuna roll?
