Epic Games Reportedly Building Disney Extraction Shooter

Remember that massive $1.5 billion investment Disney made in Epic Games back in 2024? While we’ve seen plenty of skins and crossovers in Fortnite, the actual "metaverse" plan has been a bit of a mystery for many of us. Well, it looks like we finally have a glimpse of what’s cooking behind the scenes. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Epic is currently developing a Disney-themed extraction shooter, potentially aimed for a November release.

The game is reportedly one of three Disney-related projects in the works at Epic. It’s being described as similar to Arc Raiders, a multiplayer shooter where players fight for resources and try to reach an extraction point before being eliminated. But instead of gritty survivors in a post-apocalyptic world, you’ll likely be playing as iconic Disney characters. This project is seen as a major "comeback" attempt for Epic, especially after the company recently laid off about 1,000 employees following a downturn in Fortnite engagement.

However, it might not be all sunshine and rainbows. Internal reviews for the project have apparently been a bit mixed, with some reviewers suggesting the mechanics aren't exactly groundbreaking or original. Despite this, it's reportedly the most promising title among the three currently in development. One of the other projects has already seen its resources shifted elsewhere after Disney reportedly expressed disappointment with the development timeline.

The big question remains: will this be a standalone game or just another massive mode within the Fortnite ecosystem? Epic has been trying to turn Fortnite into a "multiverse" similar to Roblox, but they also recently shut down several internal modes like Rocket Racing. Whether this Disney shooter can recapture the magic and bring players back in droves is something we’ll be watching closely as we head toward the end of the year.
