The beloved charity speedrunning event, Games Done Quick (GDQ), is set to make its first-ever European appearance this summer at Germany's Gamescom. This expansion aims to bring the thrilling world of speedrunning to a wider global audience.
Get ready, Europe! Games Done Quick (GDQ), the organization renowned for its incredible charity speedrunning marathons, is officially expanding its reach and will host its inaugural European event this summer. The speedrunning extravaganza is slated to take place at the massive Gamescom convention in Cologne, Germany, from August 28th to 30th.
This marks a significant milestone for GDQ, bringing its unique blend of high-skill gameplay and charitable giving directly to the European gaming community. The event will run for the entire three-day duration of Gamescom, featuring popular speedrunners and, for the first time in Europe, an on-site live audience. For those unable to attend in person, the action will be broadcast live on Twitch and YouTube, with daily programming kicking off at 4 AM ET (that's early, folks!) and continuing until 2 PM ET.
Ashley Farkas, Games Done Quick’s Owner and Business Director, expressed immense excitement about this new venture. "We’re thrilled to expand Games Done Quick globally and to bring a live event to gamescom in Germany, an opportunity that’s incredibly meaningful to our team," Farkas stated. "This partnership not only supports an amazing initiative, but also creates space for more runners to participate, especially those who haven’t previously had the opportunity to travel to the US."
Since its inception in 2010, Games Done Quick has become a powerhouse in charitable gaming, raising over $60 million for various charities worldwide. Their previous events, like the one held in January featuring speedruns of hits like Super Mario Sunshine and Hades II, have consistently captivated audiences. This European debut promises to be another memorable chapter in GDQ's impressive history, offering more runners a chance to shine and more fans a chance to support incredible causes.
