A 14-inch HP EliteBook just got a $2,360 discount at Best Buy, but even at $1,399 it trails a Minisforum UM890 Pro mini PC that offers stronger specs for a lower price. Here's how the two options compare and what buyers should consider.

Best Buy recently discounted a 14-inch HP EliteBook by a staggering $2,360, dropping the laptop's price to $1,399. At first glance that kind of markdown feels like a steal for a premium business notebook, but a closer look reveals there may be better value elsewhere — especially if raw specs and price-to-performance matter to you.

The EliteBook in question carries hallmarks of a premium enterprise machine: business-focused build quality, a bright display, and corporate security features. Those traits appeal to professionals who need durable hardware, warranty coverage, and serviceability. However, the discounted asking price still sits above many alternatives that deliver stronger hardware for less money.

One such alternative is the Minisforum UM890 Pro mini PC. Despite its compact form factor, the UM890 Pro packs a punch: a high-core-count Ryzen processor, generous RAM and storage options, and solid connectivity in a tiny chassis. For users whose workflows rely on raw compute — content creators, developers, or power users who don’t need a built-in screen or keyboard — a mini PC can provide superior performance-per-dollar.

Deciding between the two comes down to priorities. If mobility, integrated display and keyboard, and business-grade support are essential, the EliteBook still has appeal even at $1,399. If desktop-style performance, upgradeability and a lower total cost are more important, the UM890 Pro looks like the smarter buy.

Also worth noting: peripherals and a monitor add to the mini PC’s total cost, and warranty/service expectations differ between consumer mini PCs and enterprise laptops. For bargain hunters who prioritize performance, though, the Minisforum option is a compelling alternative to the heavily discounted EliteBook.
