Best Deals on Kindle Colorsoft and Kobo Libra Colour

Two color e-readers—the Kindle Colorsoft (16GB) and Kobo Libra Colour—are at their lowest prices yet, making color E Ink more accessible. Both offer 7-inch E Ink displays, water resistance, and different strengths depending on ecosystem and features.
Color e-readers have always felt like a niche luxury: useful for comics, cookbooks, and magazines, but often priced out of reach. Right now, two of the most notable models are on sale. Amazon’s Kindle Colorsoft (16GB) is down to $169.99 (previously $249.99) at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target, while Rakuten’s Kobo Libra Colour is available for $199.99 (marked down from $229.99) via Kobo’s storefront.
Both readers share core specs that matter: a 7-inch E Ink panel with 300ppi for black-and-white text (dropping to about 150ppi for color), IPX8 water resistance, and compact, booklike designs. In practice, the Colorsoft’s color rendering looks a touch more vibrant in many cases, but the gap isn’t huge — color on E Ink is still a trade-off between saturation and battery life.
Where they diverge is in ecosystem and features. The Kindle Colorsoft is a strong pick if you already buy books from Amazon. It’s straightforward to access and sync Kindle purchases, and the 16GB model mirrors much of the reading experience of Amazon’s pricier Signature Edition, minus wireless charging and an auto-adjusting front light. Amazon also supports features like Send to Alexa Plus for note summaries and reminders, which can be handy for heavy Kindle users.
The Kobo Libra Colour leans toward flexibility. It ships with 32GB of storage in higher trims, physical page-turn buttons, and stylus support for note-taking, including handwriting-to-text conversion and built-in notebook templates. Kobo’s broader file-format support (including EPUB) and integrations such as Instapaper make it easier to manage diverse reading libraries without sideloading workarounds.
Bottom line: if your library is tied to Kindle, the Colorsoft is the better bargain. If you prefer open formats, more storage, and handwriting features, the Libra Colour looks like the smarter buy—especially at its current discount.
