Lenovo Legion Go 2 Prices Spike Due to Ramageddon

The Lenovo Legion Go 2 has seen a massive price increase, with the high-end model now hitting the $2,000 mark. This surge is attributed to rising component costs, particularly RAM, affecting the gaming handheld market.
Hey Mobikolik readers, if you were planning to grab a new handheld gaming PC, you might want to sit down for this one. It seems the era of affordable high-end handhelds is hitting a major speed bump. Lenovo’s flagship Legion Go 2, which we already thought was a bit pricey at its launch, has just seen a staggering price hike at major retailers like Best Buy.
To put things into perspective, the model featuring the AMD Ryzen Z2, which originally started at $1,099, is now being listed for $1,499. If you were eyeing the more powerful Ryzen Z2 Extreme version, the jump is even more painful. That model has gone from $1,349 to a whopping $1,999. We are looking at a $650 increase in just about six months. It looks like the industry is currently grappling with what some are calling 'Ramageddon'—a sharp rise in the cost of memory and other critical components that is now being passed directly to the consumer.
This price surge puts Lenovo in a very tricky spot compared to its rivals. For the price of one high-end Legion Go 2, you could almost buy two ROG Ally X units, which currently sits at $999. While the Legion Go 2 offers unique features like its detachable controllers and 'mouse mode,' a $2,000 price tag moves it out of the reach of most casual gamers and into the territory of high-end gaming laptops.
Is this just the beginning? It’s very possible. While Asus has mentioned they have no immediate plans for a price hike, the rising cost of RAM is a ghost that haunts every hardware manufacturer right now. If you’ve been on the fence about buying a handheld, this might be the sign to act before other brands follow suit. For now, the Legion Go 2 seems to be testing the limits of what gamers are willing to pay for portability.
