However, every once in a while, a developer creates something so absurdly charming that the community simply refuses to let it go. This is exactly what happened with the indie cosmic horror hit Look Outside. Developer Francis Coulombe recently announced that the game’s "Smooch Mode"—originally a holiday gag—is here to stay.

For those who missed the initial chaos, the April 1st update replaced the usual tense survival mechanics with a much more affectionate alternative. Instead of fighting or hiding from the terrifying eldritch horrors and surviving neighbors in a cursed apartment building, players were given the option to give them a smooch. The update even included custom sprites with bright red blushing cheeks and updated dialogue for the stammering monsters. It turns out that even a creature from the void appreciates a little bit of love every now and then.

So, how do you access this lovefest now that the holiday is over? The developer has built in a couple of ways to keep the romance alive. If you started a save file on April 1st and kissed the wounded neighbor, that specific file is now permanently locked into Smooch Mode. But don't worry if you missed the window; you can trigger the mode on any new save file simply by naming your character 'Casanova'.

Once activated, you can go on a kissing spree across the apartment complex. While not every single abomination is open to your advances, a surprising number of them are. From the Rat King to the weird bug guy in the basement who eats bandages, there are plenty of awkward romantic encounters to be had. It’s a hilarious contrast to the game’s otherwise dark and unsettling atmosphere.

Beyond the silliness, there is even more good news for fans. Coulombe has hinted that a major, non-silly content update is also in the works for the near future. It seems like a great time to be a Look Outside fan, whether you're looking for genuine cosmic horror or just want to see a monster blush.
