Meta is taking its Threads social media platform into the virtual realm with the launch of a native app for its Meta Quest VR headsets. The company announced the new offering on Tuesday, signaling a continued push to integrate its services across various hardware platforms. This VR debut comes shortly after Threads was made available on Meta's Ray-Ban Display AR glasses last month, and it coincides with the platform surpassing a major milestone of 500 million monthly active users.

The new Threads VR app appears to be a comprehensive experience, allowing users to perform a wide range of typical social media actions directly within a virtual environment. According to Meta, users can browse their feeds, create new posts, like and reply to existing content, visit user profiles, conduct searches, and watch videos – essentially, all the core functionalities one would expect from the Threads platform.

Meta emphasized its intention behind the VR app's development, stating, "We designed the new Threads app for Meta Quest to make using VR more social than ever." The company aims to foster a more engaging and interactive social experience for its VR users, suggesting that the platform can be used to stay updated on conversations even during virtual gatherings or other immersive activities. This expansion into VR highlights Meta's strategy of leveraging its hardware ecosystem to deepen user engagement with its social applications.
