If you were planning to pick up a new Microsoft Surface device anytime soon, you might want to double-check your budget. Microsoft has just implemented a massive price hike across its Surface lineup, and the numbers are quite startling. The 13-inch Surface Pro 11 and the 13.8-inch Surface Laptop 7, which previously started at $999, are now listed at $1,499. That is a flat $500 increase for the entry-level experience.

The culprit behind this sudden surge is what some are calling "RAMageddon." A global shortage of RAM is sending shockwaves through the tech industry, and Microsoft seems to be among the first major hardware players to pass those costs directly to the consumer.
