Microsoft Brings Xbox Mode to All Windows 11 PCs

Microsoft is moving to blur the line between PC and console play by rolling out an "Xbox mode" to every Windows 11 PC this April. What had been called the Xbox Full Screen Experience (FSE) in preview is now being renamed and prepared for a wider release, covering laptops, desktops and tablets.

The FSE preview has been available since November 2025 to users enrolled in both the Windows Insider and Xbox Insider programs. Starting next month, though, that experience will stop feeling like an opt‑in experiment and more like a built‑in option for Windows gamers. The interface is designed to put Xbox services and game features front‑and‑center in a full‑screen environment tailored to gaming sessions.

This broader rollout comes as Microsoft continues to align Windows and Xbox strategies. The company is also developing Project Helix, a next‑generation Xbox platform that Microsoft says will be able to play PC games as well; Helix is slated to enter alpha in 2027. Rolling out Xbox mode earlier helps Microsoft prime Windows users for deeper Xbox integrations ahead of Helix’s arrival.

For PC players, Xbox mode promises a more console‑like entry point to Xbox Game Pass, social features, and controller‑first navigation without leaving Windows. It’s an attempt to make the Xbox ecosystem feel native on a wider range of hardware while preserving the flexibility Windows users expect.
