The Artemis II mission is proving to be much more than just a flight test; it’s a visual feast for those of us back on Earth. As the crew traveled further from our planet than any humans in history, they took a moment to capture some truly breathtaking imagery from the far side of the Moon. NASA recently shared these photos, and one in particular—a stunning 'Earthset'—is already being compared to the iconic 'Earthrise' photo from the Apollo 8 mission.

Seeing our blue marble dip below the lunar horizon is a perspective very few will ever witness firsthand. The agency noted that the image serves as a powerful reminder of our place in the cosmos, mirroring the sense of wonder felt nearly six decades ago. But the visual highlights didn't stop there. The crew also experienced a total solar eclipse from their unique vantage point. For about 57 minutes, the Moon completely blocked the Sun as the Orion spacecraft soared more than 4,000 miles beyond the lunar surface.

Beyond the photography, the Artemis II astronauts have left a small but meaningful mark on lunar geography. During their orbit, they identified two previously unnamed craters. They’ve proposed the names 'Integrity'—the nickname of their spacecraft—and 'Carroll,' in honor of Commander Reid Wiseman's late wife. Wiseman described the latter as a “bright spot on the Moon,” a touching tribute that adds a human element to this high-tech voyage.

As you read this, the crew is already on their way back home. The Orion capsule is scheduled to splash down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego on April 10. It’s been an incredible journey to follow, and these photos are just the beginning of what we can expect as humanity prepares to return to the lunar surface for good. Stay tuned to mobikolik.com for more updates as they land!
