Remedy Ships Final Update for FBC: Firebreak

Remedy has quietly closed the chapter on new content for its multiplayer experiment FBC: Firebreak with the release of the Open House update. While the studio says this will be the last content drop, the team also confirmed the game will remain playable and the relay servers will be maintained for years to come.

FBC: Firebreak launched into Remedy’s shared eerie universe last year but struggled to find its footing with players and critics. Much of the criticism focused on a rough onboarding experience that made the first hours of play frustrating for newcomers. Remedy responded with plans to smooth out that early stretch and tweak player flow, and the Open House update seems to lean into those goals.

Beyond a handful of new in-game items, the update includes changes designed to broaden access. The base price has been reduced to $20, which lowers the barrier for curious players. More notably, Remedy added a Friend’s Pass feature that lets people who don’t own the game join matches when invited by owning friends—an approach that could help seed matches and make it easier to get a session going.

The game’s development also coincided with internal turbulence at Remedy: a leadership shake-up last year saw the CEO depart amid the studio’s efforts to course-correct. Still, Remedy says it has completed engineering work to ensure the game’s infrastructure can be sustained even with a smaller active player base.
