Riot Games is ceasing active development for its free-to-play League of Legends fighting game, 2XKO, less than a year after its initial launch. The company cited a lack of sustained player engagement as the reason for the decision.

It appears that Riot Games is already winding down its efforts on 2XKO, the free-to-play fighting game set in the League of Legends universe. This comes less than a year after the game's initial launch. According to Riot, 'active development' is slated to conclude by the end of 2026. The company stated that they haven't observed enough players sticking with the game to establish a sustainable path forward.

While active development is ending, Riot has assured players that the game's servers will remain online well beyond 2026. As a gesture to its player base, Riot is unlocking all playable characters within the game and will be refunding any money that players have spent. This move signifies a shift in strategy for Riot Games concerning its foray into the fighting game genre.

2XKO initially launched in an early access beta on PC back in October 2025. It later made its way to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles in January.
