Roblox Connect Shuts Down After Less Than a Year

Roblox is discontinuing its video calling service, Roblox Connect, less than a year after its introduction. The company cited a lack of user adoption for the dedicated feature.
Well folks, it looks like Roblox Connect, the video calling service that launched with so much promise back in 2023, is already being shut down. If you were a fan of hopping into a call and having your Roblox avatar mimic your real-life movements while you chatted with friends in a shared virtual space, you'll have to find a new way to connect.
Roblox announced the discontinuation of the service, including its developer-facing APIs, stating that users aged 13 and older predominantly use the platform's existing party voice chat for their communication needs. It seems the dedicated video chat feature just didn't gain the traction the company had hoped for.
This move signals a shift in Roblox's strategy, focusing more on its core social features rather than expanding into standalone communication tools. While Connect offered a novel way to interact, the success of its integrated voice chat suggests that users prefer convenience and familiarity within the existing ecosystem. We'll be keeping an eye on what Roblox does next, but for now, it's goodbye to Roblox Connect.
