Shelly's New Sensor Detects People Without Cameras

Shelly, known for its subscription-free smart home devices, has just unveiled another interesting gadget for automation enthusiasts: the Presence Gen4 sensor. Following up on their recent security camera release, this new accessory aims to enhance smart home capabilities by detecting movement and presence without relying on traditional cameras. This means enhanced privacy for users while still enabling advanced automation scenarios.

The Presence Gen4 utilizes mmWave radar technology, a sophisticated method that allows it to sense movement, presence, and even activities of people and pets within a space. What's particularly impressive is its ability to simultaneously track up to ten individuals. This capability opens up a world of possibilities for smart home automation, from adjusting lighting and temperature based on occupancy to triggering specific scenes when certain people are detected.

One of the key selling points of the Presence Gen4 is its privacy-centric design. By eschewing cameras, Shelly addresses growing concerns about surveillance and data privacy in smart homes. The sensor focuses solely on detecting motion and presence, ensuring that no visual data is captured or stored. This makes it an ideal solution for those who want the benefits of smart home automation without compromising their privacy.

Priced at $84.99, the Shelly Presence Gen4 is available now through Shelly's online store. The company expects it to be rolled out to major retailers like Amazon and Best Buy in the near future. Whether you're looking to upgrade your existing smart home setup or just starting out, this innovative sensor offers a compelling new way to make your home smarter and more responsive, all while keeping your personal space secure.
