Sony replaces the popular PS-LX310BT with the PS-LX5BT, updating its design and features while keeping user-friendly Bluetooth playback. The new model aims to modernize the entry-level vinyl experience without alienating casual listeners.

Sony's PS-LX310BT was a surprising hit for people who wanted a fuss-free way into vinyl. Now, more than six years after that model launched, Sony has introduced the PS-LX5BT as its successor — a compact Bluetooth turntable that looks to refine the formula rather than reinvent it.

Visually the LX5BT keeps things simple: a neat plinth, a dust cover and a tonearm that won’t intimidate newcomers. The focus remains on convenience. Bluetooth pairing is still front-and-center, making it easy to stream records wirelessly to speakers or headphones. For many, that remains the main selling point — being able to enjoy vinyl without a separate phono preamp or a tangle of cables.

Under the lid, Sony has revised a few key details. Expect tweaks to the cartridge and platter mechanics designed to improve tracking and reduce noise. There are also improvements to build quality and controls, which feel slightly more solid compared with the LX310BT. Those small upgrades add up to a cleaner, more reliable playback experience, especially for everyday listening.

That said, the PS-LX5BT is still firmly aimed at casual listeners rather than audiophiles. It won't compete with higher-end belt-drive models or turntables that prioritize upgrade paths and isolation. If you want deep hands-on tweaking, this probably isn’t the right tool. But for someone who values simplicity, solid Bluetooth performance and a good out-of-the-box sound, Sony’s approach remains compelling.

Price and availability will shape how attractive the LX5BT is compared to rivals. If Sony keeps it affordable and maintains the LX310BT’s accessibility, the PS-LX5BT could again be a go-to pick for newcomers to vinyl or anyone wanting a tidy, modern playback option.
