Sony is attempting to clarify the functionality of its AI Camera Assistant on the Xperia 1 XIII after receiving criticism for a social media post showcasing the feature. The company states the AI does not edit photos but offers suggestions for improvement.
Sony is stepping in to clear the air regarding its AI Camera Assistant for the Xperia 1 XIII, following some less-than-ideal attention drawn by a recent demonstration. You might recall the kerfuffle when the company shared examples of what its AI could do, and frankly, they weren't exactly portfolio-worthy.
The company wants to make it abundantly clear: this AI isn't designed to edit your photos after the fact. Instead, it's meant to be a real-time helper, providing suggestions based on factors like lighting, the subject of the photo, and the depth of field. Point your Xperia 1 XIII at something, and the AI Camera Assistant will reportedly offer up to four different options to tweak exposure, color balance, and background blur, aiming to enhance your shot before you even press the shutter button.
Sony's own product video also mentions that the AI Camera Assistant might suggest the "most photogenic angle." However, the example shown in the clip only demonstrated zooming in, which isn't quite the same as a dynamic camera angle suggestion. It seems there's still a bit of a gap between the marketing vision and the practical application.
The initial examples posted on X (formerly Twitter) certainly raised eyebrows, and the variety of less-than-stellar outcomes was, as one observer put it, "impressive." While Sony is now working to explain that the AI offers suggestions rather than making direct edits, the initial impression left a mark. We'll have to see if future updates or clearer demonstrations can better showcase the intended benefits of this AI-powered camera assistance for Xperia users.
