Well, it looks like Tesla's ambitious Solar Roof project might be coming to an end, or at least taking a significant backseat. According to reports from Electrek, citing sources close to the program, Tesla has informed its network of third-party installers that the Solar Roof is no longer available for new orders. Going forward, it seems customers will only be able to get traditional Tesla solar panels.

While Tesla itself hasn't made an official announcement about discontinuing the product, there are some pretty telling signs on their website. If you try to visit the dedicated Solar Roof page, which has been around for nearly a decade, it now automatically redirects you to the page for Tesla's regular solar panels. This move strongly suggests that the company is indeed phasing out the Solar Roof.

Launched with much fanfare back in 2016, the Solar Roof was envisioned as a sleek, integrated solution that made solar energy generation look like a natural part of a home's aesthetic. The idea was to replace traditional roofing tiles with durable, aesthetically pleasing solar tiles. It was a bold vision, aiming to blend renewable energy technology with home construction seamlessly. However, it seems the complexities and costs associated with manufacturing and installing these specialized tiles might have proven too challenging for widespread adoption.

For those who have already ordered or had Solar Roof installed, Tesla reportedly assures that existing installations and warranties will be honored. But for new customers, the path now leads to conventional solar panels. It's a bit of a bummer for those who were really drawn to the integrated look, but perhaps it's a strategic move by Tesla to streamline its renewable energy offerings and focus on its core automotive business, alongside its standard solar panel installations.
