A recent teardown by iFixit has confirmed that the T1 Phone, associated with Donald Trump, is virtually identical to the HTC U24 Pro. The analysis revealed minor differences but functionally the devices appear to be the same.
Well folks, it looks like that much-hyped Trump phone, the T1, isn't quite the revolutionary device some might have expected. iFixit, the go-to source for all things gadget teardowns, has gotten its hands on the T1 and, in partnership with NBC, has confirmed what many suspected: it's essentially a rebranded HTC U24 Pro. This echoes early reports from February that suggested the same.
The iFixit team acquired both the Trump phone (specifically, NBC's media sample) and an HTC U24 Pro. They put both devices through rigorous testing, including CT scans and full disassembly. Their findings were quite telling – the phones are functionally identical. In a rather impressive feat, they even managed to assemble a working 'Frankenstein phone' by fitting the U24 Pro's motherboard into the T1 Phone's chassis, proving just how similar the internal components are.
While the overall internal architecture is the same, iFixit did note a few minor cosmetic differences. For instance, the placement of the flash module has been slightly altered, and the speaker grille appears to have undergone some subtle changes. However, these are superficial tweaks and don't point to any significant divergence in the core technology or user experience. For all intents and purposes, if you're holding a T1 Phone, you're holding an HTC U24 Pro with a different coat of paint and perhaps a slightly adjusted internal layout. It makes you wonder about the actual innovation and development that went into the 'Trump phone' branding.
