London-based Wheely has launched its premium chauffeur app in New York City, offering services like Mercedes S-Class rides, airport pickups and a dedicated chauffeur-for-a-day. The company plans further US expansion and aims to build a 5,000-driver network through its in-house Chauffeur Academy.

If your idea of a ride is a little more tailored than a standard black car, Wheely has arrived in New York with a clear pitch: think luxury chauffeur service, via app. The London-born company, already operating in cities such as London, Paris and Dubai, is positioning itself as an upscale alternative for executives, VIPs and travelers looking for extras like Fiji water and towels.

Wheely's US debut centers on a handful of premium options. Business SUV covers the black car crowd, while Wheely First promises a Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W223) loaded with amenities. There's also Perfect Airport Pickup, which tracks flights to ensure timely meet-and-greets, and Chauffeur for a Day, a more bespoke offering that can include errands or pickups for guests and family.

For drivers, Wheely brings its in-house Chauffeur Academy to New York, a training and qualification pipeline it expects to scale into a 5,000-strong network over the next five years. That emphasis on vetted, service-oriented drivers is part of Wheely's attempt to differentiate itself from mainstream ride-hail platforms.

The expansion into the US follows a trend of apps targeting wealthier riders: Uber recently unveiled Uber Elite, and other premium mobility plays are sharpening their offerings. Wheely's roadmap calls for five major US cities within three years, with Bloomberg naming potential markets such as Texas, Miami/Palm Beach and Washington, D.C.

For New Yorkers who want an alternative to town car queues or black-car apps, Wheely offers a more concierge-style approach. Whether that translates into sustained demand will depend on pricing, driver supply and how much consumers value the extras. Still, for those who prioritize comfort and service, Wheely's arrival adds another option to the city's mobility mix.
