Microsoft is rolling out significant changes to Windows Update, allowing users to pause automatic updates for up to 35 days. This move addresses a long-standing user complaint about disruptive update schedules.
Great news for Windows users who’ve ever found themselves rudely interrupted by an automatic update at the worst possible moment! Microsoft is finally bringing some highly anticipated changes to its Windows Update system. Currently rolling out to users in the Dev and Experimental Windows Insider channels, these updates include the ability to indefinitely pause automatic updates for up to 35 days at a time. This is a pretty big deal for anyone who’s been frustrated by unexpected restarts during important tasks or, even worse, during a crucial gaming session.
This change comes as part of a broader effort by Microsoft to improve the Windows 11 experience and tackle some of the most common user gripes. Last month, the company announced a series of planned fixes aimed at making the operating system more stable and user-friendly. Among these, making updates less disruptive was a top priority. In a recent blog post, Microsoft indicated that users will be able to extend this pause period as many times as needed, essentially giving them full control over when their system decides to update.
While this feature is currently in the Insider channels, it’s expected to make its way to all Windows users in a future update. This move is a significant step towards a more user-centric approach to software updates, acknowledging that flexibility and user control are key to a positive computing experience. So, hang in there, everyone – a less disruptive Windows update future seems to be on the horizon!
