X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, is making a significant shift in how it compensates content creators. The company has announced the discontinuation of its revenue-sharing program, a move that has seen several iterations and criticisms under Elon Musk's leadership. This program, which aimed to share ad revenue with creators, is being replaced by a new initiative called 'Original Content Rewards,' set to launch on September 8th.

The new program introduces a different approach to creator compensation. To be eligible, creators will need to meet specific criteria, including having at least 500 verified followers and accumulating a minimum of 500,000 impressions from verified users on their Home Timeline within the last 90 days. These are just some of the requirements creators will need to fulfill.

Under the Original Content Rewards program, creators will earn based on 'qualified impressions' generated by their 'original content.' A 'qualified impression' is defined as a unique impression from a Premium subscriber viewing content in their Home Timeline feed, with at least 50% of the post visible. This new system appears to prioritize engagement from paying users, potentially altering the landscape for content monetization on the platform.

The shift away from the previous revenue-sharing model marks a new chapter for creator incentives on X. While the specifics of how 'qualified impressions' will translate into earnings are still being detailed, the focus on Premium subscribers suggests a strategy to further leverage the platform's subscription base. Creators will be watching closely to see how this new reward system impacts their income and overall engagement on X.
