YouTube Tightens Partner Program Rules for Creators

Hey tech enthusiasts! Get ready for some significant changes coming to YouTube. If you're a creator dreaming of monetizing your content, listen up! Starting February 1st, 2027, YouTube is bumping up the requirements to join its coveted Partner Program (YPP). This means it's going to be a bit tougher to start earning those ad revenues.

The new rules are quite a leap from what we're used to. Currently, creators need 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 watch hours in the past year or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. But by 2027, you'll need to hit 1,000 subscribers and then choose between 8,000 qualified watch hours over the past year or a whopping 20 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. That's double the watch hours and double the Shorts views needed for the latter option!

For those focusing on YouTube Shorts, there's another key detail. To earn from the Shorts Creator Pool, you’ll need to maintain those 10 million Shorts views over 90 days. However, if you dip below this number, you won't be kicked out of the YPP entirely, which is a small mercy.
