Zoom has addressed a critical security flaw that could have allowed attackers to take control of devices during meetings. Researchers discovered the vulnerability could be exploited using AI models and a few prompts.
Zoom has recently patched a significant security vulnerability that posed a serious risk to users participating in meetings. The flaw, detailed by researchers at A Security, could have allowed an attacker to hijack a victim's device simply by leveraging the platform's annotation feature during a shared screen session. What's particularly concerning is that the exploit was reportedly developed using readily available AI models and a surprisingly small number of prompts, highlighting the growing threat of AI-assisted cyberattacks.
The vulnerability, tracked as ZSB-26015, exploited Zoom's annotation tool, a feature designed for collaboration that lets users draw on a shared screen. An attacker could have joined or even hosted a meeting and then executed malicious code on other participants' devices. This could lead to severe consequences, including data theft, unauthorized activation of cameras and microphones, or the installation of malware.
