Mark Zuckerberg's super yacht, the Launchpad, was reportedly closer to a stranded skiff than a cruise ship that provided assistance. Passengers aboard the cruise ship claim the yacht repeatedly refused to respond to calls for help.

It seems even billionaires aren't immune to accusations of not lending a hand when needed. Earlier this week, an Alaskan cruise ship, the Wilderness Legacy, came to the rescue of a small skiff that had run out of fuel near Farragut Bay. However, reports from the Alaska Beacon and Halifax Shipping News suggest that the closest vessel to the stranded boat was actually Mark Zuckerberg's own super yacht, the Launchpad.

Michael Love, a passenger on the Wilderness Legacy, took to Bluesky to share his experience. He posted that the captain of the cruise ship announced that Zuckerberg's yacht was indeed closer to the distressed skiff. According to Love, the captain also stated that the Launchpad 'repeatedly refused to respond' to any requests for assistance, a fact that reportedly led to booing from the passengers on board the Wilderness Legacy.

AIS tracking data, which monitors vessel movements, appears to corroborate the claims. The data seems to indicate that the Launchpad was indeed closer to the skiff in trouble. However, the yacht then reportedly stopped near the entrance to the bay, seemingly not offering aid. While the Alaska Beacon notes that Zuckerberg's yacht did eventually move away from the area, the initial inaction has sparked some controversy, especially given the proximity and the passengers' accounts.

This incident raises questions about the responsibilities and perceptions of those with significant resources. While the exact details and motivations behind the Launchpad's actions remain unclear, the reports have certainly put Zuckerberg and his luxurious vessel in the spotlight for potentially overlooking a vessel in distress. We'll be keeping an eye on any further developments or statements regarding this situation.
