Asus is expanding its Republic of Gamers (ROG) lineup with a new, rather compact display. The ROG Strix XG129C, announced this past Friday, is a 12.3-inch IPS touchscreen panel that's positioned as a 'sidekick' to a larger main monitor. This concept is reminiscent of Asus's previous offerings, like the secondary screen found on the 2020 ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 laptop.

While slightly smaller than Corsair's competing Xeneon Edge, which boasts a 14.5-inch display, the XG129C shares the same 720p resolution. Asus highlights that this new display covers an impressive 125 percent of the sRGB color gamut and 90 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut, suggesting good color accuracy for its intended purpose. Gamers and creators will appreciate the vibrant visuals this panel can produce.

Adding value, Asus is bundling a one-year subscription to AIDA64 Extreme, a popular hardware monitoring tool. Normally, this software would set you back around $65, so this inclusion is a nice bonus for those looking to keep a close eye on their system's performance and temperatures. The XG129C appears poised to offer a practical and visually appealing way to expand a gaming or workstation setup, giving users quick access to essential information without cluttering their main screen.
