Google is rolling out tighter integration of its Gemini AI across Workspace apps, introducing a built-in Gemini chat in Google Docs, AI-driven spreadsheet generation, and a smarter search experience in Drive. The updates are aimed at making content creation and file discovery faster for Workspace and AI plan subscribers.
In Docs, the change goes beyond the current inline writing suggestions. A new Gemini chat window will appear at the bottom of the document, allowing users to describe the type of document they want and receive a more interactive, assistant-driven workflow. Gemini can pull context from the web, your Drive, Gmail and other Workspace sources to draft, edit, or reshape content based on prompts.
Sheets gets a significant boost: users will be able to ask Gemini to create entire spreadsheets. That includes laying out tables, applying formulas and organizing data structures, which could save time for people who frequently prototype spreadsheets or need quick data templates. The assistant aims to translate plain-language requests into usable sheet formats without manual setup.
Drive’s new Gemini-powered search function promises more intuitive file discovery by understanding queries with context, such as searching across emails, documents and attachments.
