Google Pixel Finally Adds Custom Voicemail Greetings

Google is rolling out a new beta update for Pixel phones that allows users to record their own voicemail greetings. This long-awaited feature replaces the default Google Assistant voice.
For years, Google Pixel users have had to rely on the helpful but somewhat robotic voice of Google Assistant to greet their callers. While the Call Screen feature is a lifesaver for dodging spam, the lack of a personal touch in voicemail greetings has been a minor but persistent annoyance for the Pixel community. Well, it looks like that is finally changing.
According to the latest findings in the Google Phone app beta, a new feature is rolling out that allows users to record and set their own custom voicemail greetings. This update, spotted in the version 160 beta, introduces a dedicated 'Record a greeting' option within the voicemail settings. It seems Google is finally listening to users who want their phones to sound a bit more like, well, them.
Previously, Pixel owners were largely stuck with the automated 'The person you are calling is not available' message or a variant read by the Assistant. If you wanted something personal, you often had to jump through hoops depending on your carrier's specific app or legacy dial-in systems. This new integration simplifies the process significantly, bringing the Pixel's native experience closer to what iPhone and other Android users have enjoyed for a long time.
The interface appears straightforward: you hit record, say your piece, and save it. You can also listen back to your recording before making it live. It is important to note that since this is currently in beta, it might take a few weeks before it reaches the stable version of the app on all Pixel devices. However, its appearance in the beta is a strong signal that a public release is just around the corner.
For those of us who use our Pixels for both work and personal life, this is a welcome addition. Being able to set a professional greeting for business hours or a friendly one for friends makes the device feel much more integrated into our daily routines. Keep an eye on your Play Store updates, as this feature is likely to land on your device soon!
