Lucid Motors is recalling over 4,000 Gravity SUVs due to a manufacturing defect in the second-row seat belt anchors. The issue stems from an unauthorized production change by a supplier.

Lucid Motors has officially announced a recall affecting more than 4,000 of its Gravity SUVs. The decision comes after the discovery of a serious safety concern regarding the second-row seat belts. According to reports filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), some seat belt anchors were not welded correctly, potentially failing to secure passengers during a collision.

The luxury EV maker traced the root cause back to one of its seat suppliers. Lucid stated that the supplier modified its manufacturing process without providing notice or obtaining approval from the company. While this sounds like a significant hurdle, Lucid clarifies that it has already reverted to the original, tested design. Consequently, vehicles manufactured after February 14, 2026, are not affected by this specific recall.

For a startup like Lucid, a recall of 4,000 vehicles is a notable event. While established giants like Toyota or Ford deal with recalls in the millions, this figure represents nearly the entire production run of the Gravity SUV since its debut last year. Lucid is reaching out to owners to bring their vehicles into service centers, where technicians will inspect the anchors and, if necessary, install new brackets or replace the entire seat assembly.

This isn't the first time the Gravity has faced early-stage challenges. The model previously dealt with software bugs and a separate airbag recall late last year. Despite these growing pains and a high cash burn rate, Lucid remains supported by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, which continues to back the company as a long-term partner in the competitive EV landscape.
