Mechanism has launched its first protective shell for the Switch 2, the $49 Basecase. This snap-on accessory not only shields the console but also enhances Joy-Con comfort and integrates with Mechanism's existing modular mounting system.
While many companies have taken a step back from releasing new accessories for the Switch 2, one of our favorite accessory makers, Mechanism, has finally debuted its first offering after a couple of delays. The $49 Basecase is a snap-on shell designed specifically for the console, aiming to enhance the user experience by integrating with the company’s established modular lineup of mounts.
Previously, users could already mount their Switch 2 in a variety of ways using Mechanism's $19 Basegrip. This allowed for attachment to walls, specialized gaming pillows, monitor arms, and more. The new Basecase builds upon this modularity by adding a protective layer to the console itself. It also promises to make the Joy-Cons more comfortable to hold during extended gaming sessions, a common concern for many Switch players.
A key feature highlighted is that the console shell allows for the full functionality of the Switch 2's built-in kickstand, ensuring that users don't lose out on any of the console's intended features. Furthermore, the design provides access to all essential ports and buttons, maintaining the console’s usability. The rear plate of the Basecase also boasts an interesting feature: unofficial compatibility with Lego blocks and minifigures, adding a playful, customizable element for enthusiasts.
This release from Mechanism suggests a continued focus on enhancing the Nintendo Switch 2 experience through thoughtful, modular accessories. The Basecase appears to offer a compelling blend of protection, comfort, and customization for Switch 2 owners looking to get the most out of their handheld console.
