Microsoft Launches E7 AI Tier at $99 Per User

Microsoft has confirmed that its new E7 subscription tier, built around AI agents licensed to operate like employees, will become available on May 1 for $99 per user per month. The announcement underscores the company’s push to monetise more advanced AI features for enterprise customers.

Unlike value-focused plans that compete on price, E7 appears aimed squarely at customers who want richer AI integration across productivity suites and bespoke automation. For organisations that plan to deploy multiple agents across teams — from sales assistance to code generation and process orchestration — Microsoft is packaging functionality and support that it says justifies the premium price.

Details released so far highlight deeper integration with Microsoft 365 apps, additional governance controls and commercial licensing for agent behaviour. That commercial license is pitched as enabling firms to treat AI agents similarly to salaried staff in terms of responsibilities and usage rights, a framing that will appeal to some legal and procurement teams.

Not everyone will need that level of capability, of course. Smaller businesses or teams experimenting with AI are likely to stick with cheaper tiers or pay-as-you-go options. But for enterprises chasing scale and predictable cost structures for AI-driven workflows, a fixed premium tier can simplify budgeting.
