Stellantis Partners with Mobileye for Hands-Free Driving Tech

Automotive giant Stellantis has announced a significant collaboration with Intel's Mobileye, a leader in computer vision technology. The partnership will see Mobileye's advanced EyeQ system-on-a-chip and its innovative Road Experience Management (REM) program integrated into Stellantis's diverse range of vehicle brands, including Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Fiat, and Peugeot. This move is set to bring Level 2 hands-free driving features to the road, starting as early as 2027.

The EyeQ chip is the core of Mobileye's autonomous driving technology, processing visual data to enable sophisticated driving assistance. Complementing this is the REM program, which utilizes real-time data crowdsourced from vehicles equipped with Mobileye technology. This data is crucial for building and maintaining a dynamic, high-definition 3D map of global roadways. This detailed mapping is essential for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to function effectively and safely.

With this integration, Stellantis vehicles will be capable of "hands-free, eyes-on driving and intelligent lane keeping on unmarked roads in designated areas and conditions," according to Mobileye. This means drivers will be able to take their hands off the wheel under specific circumstances, provided they remain attentive to the road. The technology's ability to handle unmarked roads signifies a notable advancement in the practical application of ADAS, moving beyond just highway driving.
