Twitch is stepping up its efforts to provide a safer environment for younger users by rolling out a suite of new parental controls. These features are designed to give parents and guardians more insight and control over how their teenage children, aged 13 to 17, engage with the popular streaming platform.

With these new controls, parents can link their account with their teen's Twitch account. This partnership grants them access to various account management features. One of the key additions is the ability to completely block teens from broadcasting their own live content. This means if you're a parent concerned about your child streaming, you can now prevent that directly through the parental control settings.

Beyond broadcasting, the new controls also target Twitch's private messaging system, known as Whispers. Parents will be able to disable this feature entirely, preventing their teens from sending or receiving direct messages on the platform. This move is likely aimed at mitigating potential risks associated with online communication and ensuring a more controlled interaction space for younger streamers.

To keep parents informed, Twitch will also be sending out a weekly email summary. This digest will provide a clear overview of the teen's activity, including the channels they've watched and the total hours spent streaming. This proactive communication aims to foster a more open dialogue between parents and teens about their online habits.

The introduction of these parental controls marks a significant step for Twitch in its commitment to user safety, particularly for its younger demographic. By offering these granular controls, the platform is empowering parents to actively participate in managing their children's online experiences, ensuring a more secure and manageable streaming environment.
