Vampire Survivors Dev Poncle Plans 15+ Games, Opens New Studios

Vampire Survivors developer Poncle is expanding significantly, with plans to launch over 15 new games and establish new studios in Japan and Italy. The company is diversifying its portfolio with sequels, original IPs, and roguelites based on existing franchises.
Hold onto your hats, gamers! Poncle, the studio behind the wildly popular Vampire Survivors, isn't resting on its laurels. In a recent interview with The Game Business, Chief Strategy Officer Matteo Sapio revealed some seriously ambitious plans. We're talking about two brand-new studios popping up in Japan and Italy, and a staggering number of over 15 games currently in active development. That's quite the leap for a company that, until now, has been almost synonymous with its breakout hit.
So, what kind of games can we expect from this expansion? Sapio outlined three main categories. First up are the expected Vampire Survivors spinoffs, like the recently announced deckbuilder Vampire Crawlers. But Poncle isn't stopping there; they're also venturing into entirely new territory with original intellectual properties (IPs), with two games set in fresh universes on the horizon. And for those who love that signature Vampire Survivors feel, the company is also developing roguelites that leverage similar mechanics but are set within established IPs. We already have a taste of this with Warhammer Survivors, slated for Steam this year. To facilitate this, Poncle has even developed a custom engine capable of transforming existing IPs into games with that addictive Vampire Survivors gameplay loop.
The success of Vampire Survivors, which has now surpassed an incredible 27 million players, has clearly paved the way for this genre boom. Titles like Halls of Torment and Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor are just a few examples of how popular this style of gameplay has become. Poncle, however, has decided to put a pause on third-party publishing after a learning experience last year, though they might revisit it down the line.
While this expansion sounds exciting, it's wise to remember the potential pitfalls of rapid growth. The industry has seen companies overextend themselves, like Embracer Group's past struggles. However, Poncle's approach seems different. They're focusing on lean, agile operations with small teams, aiming to maintain flexibility. This indie-focused strategy, especially with the success of titles like Vampire Crawlers which blends genres like Slay the Spire with dungeon crawlers, suggests Poncle is far from a one-hit wonder. For fans, this means a future brimming with potential new gaming experiences.
