Microsoft is rolling out an update that lets Xbox Series X|S owners disable Quick Resume for individual games. The change arrives first to Xbox Insiders and adds dashboard customization improvements.

Xbox Series X|S owners will soon get more control over Quick Resume: Microsoft is testing a per-game toggle that lets you disable the feature for specific titles. The change is part of an Xbox Insider build and addresses a long-standing community request.

Quick Resume, introduced with the current generation of consoles, suspends multiple games so you can jump back in seconds—even after the console has been off for weeks or months. It’s handy for single-player sessions, but some always-online or poorly compatible games can behave badly when resumed from a suspended state, requiring manual restarts or throwing connection errors.

Rather than forcing a blanket on/off approach, the new option appears under a game’s tile via More Options → Manage Quick Resume. That means you can keep Quick Resume enabled for single-player experiences where instant resume is useful, and switch it off for online or finicky titles that require a fresh boot every time.

The feature has been requested for years; former Microsoft Xbox lead Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb noted he filed a request back in 2021. It’s now rolling out to select Xbox Insiders before a wider release.

Microsoft is also expanding dashboard customization. Insiders can create custom background colors instead of choosing from preset hues, and the Home screen Groups limit is increasing from two to ten, with the ability to reorder groups like individual tiles.

These updates are small but practical quality-of-life improvements, aimed at giving players finer control over how their console behaves. If you’re in the Insider program, you can try them now; others will see them in a future public update.
