FIFA is broadening the digital footprint of the 2026 World Cup with a new partnership announced with YouTube, following a recent preferred-platform arrangement with TikTok. The move signals the organization’s push to combine traditional broadcast rights with the reach and flexibility of streaming platforms.

Under the agreement, FIFA says media partners will have options to stream a select number of matches in full on their official YouTube channels. In addition, broadcasters can stream the first 10 minutes of every match live on YouTube — a tactic likely aimed at converting short-form viewers into full-match audiences on conventional TV coverage.

The deal also provides media partners access to “every angle” of match footage, enabling custom edits and tailored content for different audiences. That could mean more highlights, alternate-camera replays and platform-specific storytelling designed to engage fans across regions and devices.

For fans, the arrangement could translate to more accessible, on-demand World Cup content and easier ways to sample matches before switching to full broadcasts. FIFA frames the partnership as part of its strategy to maximise impact across a changing media landscape as the tournament travels through 16 host cities across Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The 2026 World Cup runs from June 11 to July 19, offering a longer window for broadcasters and platforms to experiment with new streaming formats. While rights revenue remains a major income stream for FIFA, aligning with platforms like YouTube and TikTok appears to be a practical response to evolving viewer habits.
