BMW's 2027 i7 electric sedan is here, boasting a futuristic design and an interior overflowing with cutting-edge technology. This luxury EV aims to redefine the executive sedan segment with its impressive display options and enhanced performance.
The landscape of luxury electric sedans is shifting, and BMW is making a bold statement with the upcoming 2027 i7. While some competitors like Tesla's Model S and Mercedes' EQ line are reportedly phasing out, BMW is doubling down on the executive EV segment. The new 7 Series, including its fully electric i7 variant, is poised to impress with a complete embrace of modern gadgetry and refined performance.
For EV enthusiasts, the i7 stands out as the primary focus. Although BMW showcased a gasoline-powered 740 due to venue restrictions, representatives confirmed that cosmetic differences between the internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric models are minimal. The new i7 will be available in three trims: the i750 xDrive, i760 xDrive, and the top-tier i7 M70 xDrive. Pricing starts at a considerable $105,750 for the i750, with the i760 launching at $126,250. The i7 M70 is expected later, likely in 2027, with pricing yet to be announced.
Under the hood, all models feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system. The base i750 delivers 455 horsepower, while the i760 offers 544hp. The performance-oriented i7 M70 will command a massive 680hp. Significant upgrades include a larger 112.4kWh battery pack using BMW's new sixth-gen cells, enabling faster charging speeds of up to 250kW. With its native NACS port and 400-volt architecture, the i7 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 28 minutes. BMW claims the i760 can achieve over 350 miles of range on a single charge, based on internal metrics using EPA testing procedures.
The exterior design adopts BMW's new Neue Klasse language, presenting a unified look across gas and electric variants. Features like the grille and recessed door handles give the sedan a more modern, EV-like appearance. Even the gas model's tailpipes are cleverly concealed. The front boasts razor-thin crystal LED headlights and a futuristic kidney grille with integrated lighting and active aero. At the rear, extended taillights enhance the distinctive look.
Inside, the 2027 7 Series is a technological showcase. It features BMW's 'shy tech' on the steering wheel, with illuminated controls that appear only when needed. The cabin is dominated by a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and BMW's Panoramic Vision, a windshield-spanning display projecting crucial driving information. For rear passengers, a massive optional 31-inch 8K Theater Screen can stream content, enable video calls, and even support gaming with paired controllers. A full-size HDMI port ensures easy connectivity to external devices. The luxurious executive seating mode, which reclines the rear seats while advancing the front passenger seat, remains a key feature, complemented by four years of standard Digital Premium service access.
The 2027 BMW i7 represents a significant leap in luxury electric sedans, packed with features that cater to the tech-savvy elite. While the starting price places it firmly in the premium segment, the blend of performance, advanced technology, and luxurious comfort makes it a compelling option for those seeking the cutting edge in automotive innovation.
