BMW has unveiled its updated 7-series lineup for 2027, featuring significant enhancements for its i7 electric vehicles. The new models boast increased battery density, longer driving ranges, and faster charging capabilities, alongside a refreshed design and advanced interior tech.
Hey tech enthusiasts! BMW is gearing up to drop its most extensive model update ever with the 2027 7-series lineup. Leading the charge are a pair of i7 electric vehicles, the i7 50 xDrive and i7 60 xDrive, promising a significant leap in EV technology. These new electric sedans are set to impress with improved sound isolation for their motors, delivering that instant power delivery and luxurious ride we expect from BMW.
Under the hood, or rather, under the floor, these i7s are equipped with brand-new cylindrical battery packs. These packs offer a 20 percent higher energy density and can hold up to 112.5 kWh. What does this mean for us drivers? Well, the i7 60 xDrive is estimated to hit an EPA-rated 350 miles on a single charge. Plus, charging is getting a serious speed boost. Thanks to a higher 250 kW charging rate, you could potentially go from 10 to 80 percent charge in a mere 28 minutes with a compatible charger. That's a game-changer for long road trips!
Performance-wise, the i7 50 xDrive will offer up to 449 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque, hitting 60 mph in about 5.3 seconds. The more potent i7 60 xDrive steps it up with 536 hp and 549 lb-ft of torque, achieving 0 to 60 mph in a swift 4.6 seconds. BMW is also introducing some clever tech, like an "adaptive recuperation" system that uses traffic light data to help manage braking and energy recovery. And for those longer journeys, the AI-powered "charging optimized route planning" will ensure you factor in necessary charging stops, even preconditioning the battery for faster charging upon arrival.
Beyond the electric variants, the 2027 7-series also includes plug-in hybrid and traditional internal combustion engine models, all running on BMW's new "Neue Klasse" technology and sporting a bold, new design language. This includes minimalist crystal headlights and the rather striking (and perhaps a bit divisive) light-up kidney grille. Inside, the luxury continues with an upgraded 31.3-inch 8K BMW Theater Screen for rear passengers, offering streaming, gaming, and even Zoom calls. Production for these exciting new models kicks off in July 2026, with the i7 50 xDrive starting at $106,200 and the i7 60 xDrive at $124,700.
