Tesla has officially started rolling out its highly anticipated Spring software update (version 2024.14), and it is bringing some significant changes to the driving experience. While the update is packed with features like a new immersive UI for parked cars and expandable Spotify controls, a new discovery has caught the eye of the community: a dedicated 'Self-Driving' app within the vehicle's touchscreen menu.

This new app seems to consolidate various Full Self-Driving (FSD) settings into a single, streamlined interface. It signals a shift in how Tesla views its autonomous software—moving from a background setting to a primary 'product' or service that users interact with directly. For those who have been following the FSD v12 rollout, this looks like the next logical step in making the tech feel more like a cohesive platform rather than just a beta feature hidden in the settings menu.

However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows for the entire Tesla family. The update has highlighted a growing divide between 'legacy' and modern hardware. Owners of older Model 3 and Model Y vehicles equipped with Intel Atom processors are finding themselves excluded from the flashy new visual overhaul. The high-fidelity 3D driving visualizations and the sleek new UI elements are currently reserved for cars powered by the newer AMD Ryzen chips (shipped from early 2022 onwards).

While older cars still receive functional updates and safety improvements, the lack of visual parity is a stark reminder that EVs are becoming 'computers on wheels.' Just like your old smartphone struggling with the latest OS, older Teslas are starting to show their age in the face of increasingly demanding software. It’s a bittersweet moment for many long-time owners who feel the 'FOMO' as the new interface takes center stage for others.
